Farewell Obama

Farewell Obama

Farewell, Obama! Last week, I sat on my couched and prepared for President Obamas farewell address. And it seemed as soon as he walked on that stage I completely lost it.

8 years ago, history was made. I remember sitting in class and talking about the fact that a black man could possibly be President. For some reason, I doubted that it would ever happen. I doubted, America would actually elect a black man to office.

But on November 4th, 2008, I was surprised.

For these last 8 years, history was made. My little cousins, grew up seeing a man of their color in the office. My little cousins grew up seeing a first lady with their color in the office. Growing up, we are taught all the horrible things African Americans faced, from slavery, to segregation, and police brutality. However, seeing President Obama in office provided us hope. No this does not erase the past or stop the future! But whenever, the world tried to put us down it was a great reminder to know that a Black man has the most powerful job in the entire world. And at the end of the day the only person that is truly in control is GOD.

No, these 8 years weren’t perfect. Of course, we had our times when we were disappointed in President Obama. But no-one can’t say that this man wasn’t fair. He provided so many job opportunities for people that did have those opportunities 8 years ago. He made history, and spoke at schools that Presidents before were afraid to speak at. The joy of seeing President Obama elected not once, but twice cannot be replaced. For that I am very thankful.

As we say goodbye, and we welcome in this next President. I want to publicly Thank You Obama for making history and being a great representation of my country.
